Brandal – Round with Polarstar
To the bird island of Runde on a bird and seal safari. Wednesday 10 June 2026 at 6:00 PM
The trip takes place on the historic polar ship "Polarstar", Norway's first sealing ship built in steel in 1948, to the famous bird island Runde, farthest out to sea.
The island is a popular destination year-round, but is especially exciting in the summer due to the abundant birdlife. During the season, there are about 100.000 seabirds on the island, most of which live on the bird cliffs.
Runde is one of many islands in the archipelago "Sørøyane" southwest of Ålesund. It is the southernmost bird cliff in Norway, and the largest bird island south of the Arctic Circle. The trip starts at Brandal at 6:00 PM. Then we head towards Runde lighthouse and continue around to the bird cliff. On the trip we have a guide/nature guide from Runde Environmental Center who will tell us more about Runde and all the nesting seabirds there.
On the return trip we go near Grasøyane on a seal safari and maybe we are lucky and see seals on the trip. Back in Brandal between 10:00 PM -10:30 PM
Included in the price of NOK 890 is an exciting boat trip on the veteran ship Polarstar, serving fish soup, bread, and coffee.
Snacks and drinks can be purchased on board.
