I think everyone has something they MUST experience in their lifetime. As I grew older, seal hunting in the Vesterisen was that thing for me. In 1992, I managed to do it.

Despite the hardships of the sea, I thoroughly enjoyed both the work and being on board the ship.

With a Vesteristur trip and a summer in Svalbard with Polar Star, it is probably correct to say that Polar Star has meant more to me than I have meant to the ship. It clearly comes to mind as I sit and reminisce about the summer of 93 on a tourist cruise in Svalbard.

And I left an impression there that was bigger than I had imagined:

“The Norwegian Ministry of Cultural Heritage has now protected your shoe cabinet,” was the message over the phone this winter. “So now you have to start writing the story of how the cabinet came to be!”

Willy spoke as usual in a low voice. I took it as an order. Hence these lines.
